Thanks to Sudsy for the cool thumbnail, which is kinda related to the topic of this post.
Hey. Hi. It’s been a long time since I posted anything here. Last time I posted anything here was before Overwatch was released. Damn, it’s been a long time. Since then I’ve been streaming that and other games almost every week. At this point I’ve definitely put more time and effort into streaming than making videos, which is not something I’m really that proud of. Videos definitely bring in more views and ad revenue than streams, but streaming is just too much fun for me to stop.
I’ve been waiting for Overwatch since it was announced in November 2014, but I’ve only started getting hyped about it about three weeks ago. So hyped that I sketched a picture of Zenyatta, which you can see above. I can’t get this game off my mind. It’s just so damn cool! I’ve been watching videos and livestreams of the beta, reading into the lore, looking at art, lurking on the subreddit, and constantly talking about it with my friends. They’re probably really sick of me by now.
And then last weekend happened. Last weekend Blizzard decided to have a stress test for the Overwatch servers, meaning they gave a bunch of accounts access to the game for two days. My account was one of them, along with a few of my friends’, too. So I got to play it! For a glorious eight hours I got to relieve my obsession! I’m here to tell people about my experience in that time.
I have a bad habit of putting things off. I know most people have that problem, but I think mine goes to another level. The last two videos I’ve uploaded had a two-month period of hiatus leading up to them. I know I could have shortened those periods significantly, which is why I’m challenging myself to get a new video out within a month. I’m sure I’ll be able to do it, but the weird way my brain works may make it difficult.
There’s a bit of arguing going on in mostly my videos’ comment sections. It’s just petty complaints about what channel makes the best “Everything Wrong With Steven Universe” videos. People seem to get really defensive about what channels they like to watch, and that has let to some thinking that there’s like a cold war going on between all these sins video creators. I’m writing this now, before any real conflict develops, to say that I am perfectly fine with a little competition.
Yesterday, I contacted Moliminous, a YouTuber who occasionally makes videos similar to those of my Crystal Sins series, and videos similar to LittleshyFiM’sCinemare Sins videos. She replied saying that she has no problems with making similar videos. I also contacted Littleshy, who had the same mindset.
So there’s no feud between Sins video makers. Moliminous didn’t even know I existed until I contacted her, so there’s no way a conflict could arise. I do think having competition is a good thing. It gives incentive to improve on your work and a reason to not be lazy.
I’ll be citing this article if any big arguments about this arise.
It seems to me that the best way to identify a genuinely dedicated brony is by a mark of the Hasbro legal system. It’s not really something to be proud of, but I now bear that mark. This is not something I should be laughing at, but the irony is just too perfect.
It all started when I checked my email this morning…
(EWW means “Everything Wrong With” just so you know)
Anyone reading this probably remembers “Everything Wrong With Gem Glow in 3 Minutes or Less” (which should actually be 4 minutes or less). It was my first Crystal Sins video; it’s currently my most watched video with nearly ten-thousand views as of writing this. My pathetic semi-underdeveloped teenage human brain can barely picture a number that large.
Even though that video has received that much attention, I am not proud of it. There are a few reasons for that which I want to share just so I can get it off of my mind.
Here’s a little change of pace. This is a new series I call “Just Talking”. You’ll figure out why if you just watch the video.
Uploading this video came with extremely minor repercussions. As of writing this, I have lost 6 subscribers since it was published. Possibly because of the fact that it’s a pony video, and people don’t like ponies for some reason. It could also be people who only wanted to see Crystal Sins and they couldn’t tolerate me uploading anything else. If you don’t like pony and you don’t like variety, my channel is not for you.
